After leaving Warner Bros. along with his initial plans for the DC Extended Universe, the Watchmen director took his talents to the popular streaming platform, Netflix, and so far, the investment has paid off well. Last year’s Army of the Dead and its prequel, Army of Thieves, are among Netflix’s most-watched shows. However, while audiences very much enjoyed Snyder’s first two films for Netflix, his next one, Rebel Moon, is shaping up to be even more epic. Snyder recently shared photos from the ongoing shooting of the film that initially began life as a pitch for Star Wars and it’s not afraid to show its inspirations. While commemorating the first day of filming of Rebel Moon, Snyder gave audiences their first look at an in-costume Djimon Housou as General Titus as well as what looks like the ins and outs of a landing platform.
— Zack Snyder (@ZackSnyder) April 19, 2022 As revealed in its initial announcement, Rebel Moon is a big-budget epic that Snyder first pitched to Lucasfilm before the Disney acquisition in 2013. The idea languished in Snyder’s brain until Netflix gave the progenitor of the Snyderverse a chance to make it come true. To no one’s surprise, the big-budget epic is living up to its inspiration, with the latest rumors suggesting that the sci-fi film is too big for just a single outing. Then again, context matters and most rumors fail to take into account that Snyder is brazen enough to release a 4-hour-long movie in Zack Snyder’s Justice League in theaters. Regardless of how long Rebel Moon is, it’s no secret that Netflix expects it to be their next big IP. As such, we wouldn’t be surprised if Rebel Moon gets a spin-off and a sequel even before it hits the streamer. For now, all fans can do is to keep an eye out for more sneak peeks of Rebel Moon from Snyder as well as leakers. With filming just getting started, Snyder’s next love child is on track to come out by next year. Fingers crossed, we’ll know more about Snyder’s other projects by then as well, which includes an animated off-shoot from Army of the Dead, Lost Vegas, as well as a direct sequel in Planet of the Dead. Speaking of Netflix, the world’s leading streaming platform got hit by the worst news in years after shares tanked by more than 25% following news that it lost 200,000 subscribers and will lose another 2 million more in the next few months.
