Canceling the $90 million Batgirl movie hurts the most. The upcoming HBO Max movie was already headed towards post-production. It was as close to a finished product as a film can get. It even screen-tested fine, getting scores similar to Black Adam. So, it’s still surprising that it didn’t see the light of the day. The worst thing that could have happened is it would have forced Warner Bros. Discovery to find a way to excuse its events, which shouldn’t be too hard when you’ve got a superhero that can literally change entire timelines in The Flash, among others. Having said that, the cast and crew behind Batgirl aren’t the sort to cry over spilled milk. In honor of their canceled project, the people who worked on Batgirl are holding “funeral screenings” at the Warner Bros. Lot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the screenings will take place on the Warner Bros. Discovery lot so that employees can enjoy their work before the studio stashes them in some forgotten hard drive forever. While unfortunate, we can take solace in the fact that this is all part of David Zaslav’s ten-year DCEU plan. The next step is to look for a Kevin Feige figure that will guide the DCEU for the next decade. Since Warner Bros. has cut ties with Snyder - not to mention, Snyder is swimming in gold after striking a deal with Netflix to work on Rebel Moon and Army of the Dead - the studio will have to go to the ends of the earth to find someone willing to do it. Until then, the DCEU will probably remain in turmoil, complete with delays, pushbacks, and cancelations. In the meantime, fans can look forward to seeing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in action as Black Adam on October 21. As for Batgirl, she’ll feature heavily in the upcoming WB Games Montreal title, Gotham Knights, which got an earlier release date than expected.
