In a recent announcement, WWE and Bit Fry announced that they have signed a new licensing agreement that will see the likes of WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks join more than 100 of the top athletes from other sports today in the upcoming title, Ultimate Rivals: The Court.
What Is Ultimate Rivals: The Court?
Ultimate Rivals: The Court is a game being developed and published by Bit Fry. According to its description, the game is “set in a digital world of the near future” and is the “first basketball experience to give fans the ability to play as their favorite athletes wherever and however they choose.” Judging from the trailers, it’s safe to say that it’s not your typical sports simulation title. Rather, it’s an arcade-style basketball video game with absurd acrobatics in a similar vein to the NBA Jam games of the past and the aforementioned WWE 2K Battlegrounds. With the announcement, players will now have a chance to play as Sasha Banks and Roman Reigns with other superstar athletes from their respective sports and play with or against them in 3v3 basketball games. This includes, among others, NBA’s Zion Williamson and Giannis Antetokounmpo, the WNBA’s Candace Parker and Skylar Diggins-Smith, and so many more. The roster even includes the legendary hockey player, Wayne Gretzky. In addition to Banks and Reigns, other superstars from WWE’s rich roster will also be added to the game in later months. In Ultimate Rivals: The Court, players can play single-player matches against AI opponents or go online and seek out other players. Players can use either touch controls or Bluetooth console controllers when the game first launched on the Apple Arcade for iOS devices. Other modes and challenges will also be available. This includes a training mode inspired by fighting games. To further up the nostalgia factor, the developers also brought in Tim Kitzrow. In case you’ve forgotten, he’s one of the legends in the video game industry when it comes to voice acting. He’s mostly remembered for his time spent on Midway sports titles in the 90s, as well as NBA Jam and NFL Blitz.
When Is The Ultimate Rivals: The Court Release Date?
After the success of Ultimate Rivals: The Rink last year, Ultimate Rivals: The Court is a bigger game with a larger roster. It will also see a shift in action and location from the skating rink to the basketball court. Ultimate Rivals: The Court is expected to release later this 2021 on Apple Arcade, Apple’s very own game subscription service. Afterward, the game will be made available for PCs via Steam, as well as consoles.
