Scroll down below to learn more about what we know so far about Battlefield 2021.
When Is The Release Date of the Next Battlefield Game?
So far, there’s no exact release date for the next Battlefield game. However, EA CEO Andrew Wilson did confirm in a November 2020 earnings call that Electronic Arts is eyeing a “Holiday 2021” release date for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, as well as the PC. In addition to confirming the release window, Wilson also mentioned that they would release more news regarding the next Battlefield game in the spring, which should be right around now.
What Is The Title of the Next Battlefield Game?
Whether it’s Battlefield 6 or Battlefield 2021 is something that EA has yet to reveal as of yet. We also have no trailers to go by at the moment. All we have to go on is a brief “Work in Progress” footage released during EA Play 2020 that showed a large battlefield with numerous soldiers and the developers working on facial animations. Luckily, EA Play 2021 is right around the corner and rumor has it that the game will be part of the online showcase.
Where Will the Next Battlefield Game Be Set?
After tinkering around with modern time settings and the future in previous years, Call of Duty and Battlefield are going back to yesteryears wars. The latest Call of Duty game, Black Ops Cold War, is set during the 1980s. So, we wouldn’t put it past EA to choose a similar setting for the latest installment in their AAA shooter franchise. As for where the next Battlefield game will be set, fans believe that the game will take place in Kazakhstan. According to DANNYonPC, EA has already teased the location of the next Battlefield game during the EA Play 2020 tech demo. He points out the nose of the 3D-rendered character model and the medallion that’s part of a legendary outfit in Battlefield 5. He claims that you can translate the numbers found in the said locations into GPS coordinates for areas all over Kazakhstan. Another leak that’s gaining rounds comes from Tom Henderson, who claims that the next Battlefield game will have a slightly futuristic setting. Instead of, let’s say, a couple of decades from now, the game will reportedly be set a decade into the future. In addition to this, the leaker claims that the game will let players operate as a special forces team fighting for the USA or Russia in the single-player campaign. As always, this isn’t confirmed yet, so take it with a grain of salt.
What Do We Know So Far About the Next Battlefield Game?
So far, we have three things that are confirmed for the next Battlefield game. The first is that EA has Criterion helping EA Dice out with Battlefield 6. In fact, this collaboration is the reason why there will be no Need for Speed title this 2021. The second is from EA CEO Andrew Wilson himself, who revealed that the maps of the next Battlefield game will have “unprecedented scale”. He added that the game will take full advantage of the power of the next-gen consoles to “bring massive and immersive battles to life with more players than ever.” Unfortunately, this also means that players shouldn’t expect the next Battlefield game to release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The third and last bit of confirmed news is another big from EA CEO Andrew Wilson when he said that the next Battlefield game will “mark a return to all-out military warfare”. Now, we don’t exactly know what this means. However, if we were to hazard a guess, it suggests that the large-scale battles that the Battlefield franchise is known for are about to get even bigger.
What We Wish The Next Battlefield Game Would Have
At the top of our wishlist for the next Battlefield game is a huge map with more players. Previously, audiences found themselves wowed by Battlefield’s epic 32v32 maps. However, these days, that’s not enough. With games like Call of Duty: Warzone introducing 200-player modes, EA will have their work cut out for them. Another important feature that the last Battlefield game lacked was crossplay. Now that it’s pretty much the norm, we are definitely hoping that EA has learned its lesson. Speaking of lessons, we’re also hoping that EA takes a page out of Activision’s playbook and releases a standalone battle royale mode along with the next Battlefield game. We’re aware that they already went the battle royale route with the Firestorm mode for Battlefield 5. However, that mode was locked behind a full Battlefield 5 purchase. Adding a standalone and free-to-play battle royale mode that’s available separately from the next Battlefield game could be the ideal move for EA going forward.
