After Santa Monica Studios’ latest masterpiece hit store shelves on Wednesday, November 9, SullyGnome reports that the game immediately captivated the attention of viewers as it peaked at 460,387 viewers with over 16 million hours watched. Of course, this was pretty much expected after Ragnarok scored the second-highest game rating for the year. Unfortunately, it is falling behind its biggest rivals in terms of numbers. The only game with a higher rating compared to the God of War sequel is Elden Ring. Also, its Twitch numbers, while impressive, are nearly half of what Elden Ring posted, 875,155 peak viewers, in its first week after coming out on February 25. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Elden Ring dwarf’s the numbers of God of War: Ragnarok. Of course, this might have something to do with the fact that God of War: Ragnarok is a PS4 and PS5 exclusive title while Elden Ring came out on the PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and the PC. Either way, both still can’t match up with Cyberpunk 2077, which posted over 1 million peak viewers on Twitter when it launched two years ago. The age of single-player games is definitely not dead with both God of War: Ragnarok and Elden Ring at the forefront of the genre. Regardless of which game wins the GOTY award later this year, FromSoftware and Santa Monica Studio can rest easy knowing that they’ve raised the bar for narrative-driven action-adventure games. Speaking of Elden Ring, unlike Ragnarok, which is unlikely to get post-launch story content, dataminers have already found clues for the DLC of the game. Finally, Cyberpunk 2077 will get a DLC next year.
