As per The Direct, the exclusive images feature an action sequence set on Earth with flipped cop cars from Beverly Hills outside a Christmas-decorated home, suggesting that parts of the threequel will not take place off-world. This would be quite a rare sight for Guardians of the Galaxy as the team typically goes on adventures to other planets - plus, Avengers: Endgame showed that Quill and the rest of the squad had flown off of earth with Thor in tow.
Speaking of the Asgardian god of thunder, the next Marvel Cinematic Universe film after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness summons a portal to theaters on May 6 is Chris Hemsworth’s fourth solo outing, Thor: Love and Thunder, on July 8. It’s believed that the Guardians of the Galaxy have a role to play in the events of the aforementioned film, so, vice-versa, we’re curious if Thor will be tagging along with the gang in The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or even perhaps The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. We’re also wondering if the Earth sequences in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special are part of a flashback or if Peter Quill is returning to Earth following the events of Thor 4. If nothing else, Gunn’s holiday special for Disney+ should make for quite the fun time and help get fans hyped for the third Guardians of the Galaxy film on May 23. Speaking of Gunn, it appears that the eccentric creative isn’t gone from Warner Bros. and the DC Extended Universe for long. After his work is done on both the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy films, Gunn is going back to work on the second season of Peacemaker for HBO Max along with a handful of other ongoing but unnamed projects.
