Enter, Gran Turismo 7. The upcoming Gran Turismo game is the first numbered installment for the popular PlayStation-exclusive franchise in years. Sony and Polyphony are marketing the game as a return to the series’ “roots”. Now, Polyphony just dropped a new trailer that helps prove that they weren’t lying.

Gran Turismo 7 is shaping up to be the franchise’s best yet

Many still consider Gran Turismo one of the best racing sims out there, but the series hasn’t been in great shape for years. Polyphony is hoping to change that with Gran Turismo 7. The game was initially planned for a 2021 release as a PS5 exclusive before Jim Ryan later confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 was going to be released on the PS4 as well. Since then, we’ve gotten a proper release date with not-so-lovely details such as the game possibly requiring an online connection at all times and costing more on the PS5. With only a few months to go before Gran Turismo 7’s release, fans have confirmation that the fan-favorite track, Deep Forest Raceway, is returning. After skipping Gran Turismo Sport, Polyphony is bringing back Deep Forest Raceway for Gran Turismo 7. However, before its official reveal, the developers decided to get cheeky with the announcement. Back in October, the studio released “The Starting Line”, a video featuring Gran Turismo 7 content. What many didn’t know by then is that the developers hid an Easter egg throughout. It appears that all the colored lines and shapes combined to reveal the classic Gran Turismo race track. Unfortunately, it appears that Polyphony got a bit too clever as no one caught on to what they were doing. Fast forward to today and they’ve decided to reveal their “secret” themselves.

— Gran Turismo (@thegranturismo) December 3, 2021 As you can see from the video above, Gran Turismo 7 should live up to expectations. The circuit itself makes a triumphant return, complete with the right combination of challenging turns and high-speed straights that will test your driving skills. Perhaps, more importantly, the video showcases just how much effort Polyphony put into recreating the unique engine sound of each car. The studio put in the work to make each car sound different and as close to how they should sound in real life. When you consider the life-like simulation of the engine sounds and the realistic lighting, Gran Turismo 7 is already a winner in many fans’ eyes. Here’s to hoping that the game delivers when it launches on March 4, 2022.
