The next James Bond is not Craig’s problem

At the No Time to Die premiere, Independent took the time to ask Daniel Craig a few words while the actor was on the red carpet. He was asked several questions, including if he’s going to miss playing James Bond or if he’s going to reprise the role again someday. His answers to both questions were straightforward enough, but his response when asked if he preferred any actor or actress to succeed him was what really caught everyone’s attention. Craig simply told the Independent that the search for the next James Bond is “not [his] problem”. Truth be told, it really isn’t. Sure, it would be nice if Craig had an opinion, but what he said probably wouldn’t matter. Not to mention, media outlets could easily blow his recommendation out of proportion. Ultimately, Craig’s succinct and straightforward answer was for the best. With that said, asking anyone to take over the role of James Bond after Craig is a tall ask. Craig is easily one of the most successful Bond actors of all time. He’s played the role in five different films, starting with 2006’s Casino Royale. His films have also grossed several billions of dollars at the global box office. Perhaps, more importantly, critics have praised his portrayal as he bought a level of seriousness to the role that was previously absent. Fans have thrown all sorts of names into the James Bond lottery in recent years. We’ve seen a wide range of suggestions from Edris Elba and Tom Hardy to Dev Patel and Laschana Lynch, among others. In the end, though, it’s up to the producers of the franchise to decide. However, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have already confirmed that that isn’t their focus right now. Because of this, fans are better off flocking the theaters to see Craig’s swan song on October 8, 2021.
